Pregnancy is a wonderful time which should be celebrated and enjoyed. The birth of a new life is a unique and special event which should fill us with joy and happiness. However, in reality a lot of parents, and especially mummies-to-be, don’t feel that way. This often is a time filled with anxiety and fear. This fear often comes from stories read on the internet or told by friends or family, or if you yourself have experienced a previous traumatic birth.
If you are an expectant mother or a father-to-be, you have most likely spent hours googling various aspects of pregnancy and child birth and you have probably come across the term “hypnobirthing” or KGHypnobirthing by now. KGHypnobirthing is a wonderful set of techniques which aim to help with exactly that fear and anxiety that mummies-to-be may be feeling at this special time of their life.
So, let’s explore some of the most important things about KGHypnobirthing.
What is KGHypnobirthing?
We have often been told from an early age that ‘’nothing hurts like child birth’’ or that all women suffer during labour. Just think about how birth is portrayed in films or television – enough to make any woman feel scared! But KGHypnobirthing wants to show you that it doesn’t have to be like that. Your beautiful little bundle of joy can be delivered in a serene and calm way.
KGHypnobirthing is a complete antenatal education programme that aims to give parents-to-be knowledge and tools to experience the best birth possible for them. KGHypnobirthing tries to help mummies-to-be and their birthing partners to prepare for a baby’s gentle birth.
The underlying idea of KGHypnobirthing is that fear is often our biggest enemy when it comes to experiencing an easier birth. The programme is designed to help you release fear and built your confidence during pregnancy and birth by carefully listening to your body and relying on your own instincts. Babies and mummies should work in harmony. After all, mother’s bodies are naturally made to give birth and they already know what to do!
KGHypnobirthing is also not an experience that is solely for the mothers. It welcomes birthing partners too and tries to help you foster an even deeper connection with eachother, whilst also showing your birth partner how to best support you and how to take on an active role in the pregnancy and birth.

What KGHypnobirthing is not
Before we continue with the benefits of KGHypnobirthing, we wanted to clarify a few things. Many people think that KGHypnobirthing is some sort of heavy hypnosis where you lose consciousness during birth. KGHypnobirthing is not that and at no point will you be unconscious, don’t worry.
KGHypnobirthingis a combination of a lot of breathing, calming and light self-hypnosis techniques such as visualisation and meditation, that help you remain positive, relaxed and peaceful during the birth. This self-induced relaxed state will keep you aware of what’s going on around you whilst, most importantly, helping you tune in to your body and your baby’s needs to help you deliver safely, naturally and with less pain.
Just think of it as meditative labour where you use techniques to release your fear, work through contractions and keep yourself focused on the extraordinary beauty of the experience of giving birth to a new life.
What are the benefits of KGHypnobirthing?
The benefits of KGHypnobirthing are numerous – both for the mother and the baby.
More Comfortable Birth
KGHypnobirthing aims to make the pregnancy and the birthing experience a beautiful and joyfultime during which the mummy-to-be is more confident, comfortable and relaxed. We help you learn techniques to relax, release your fears and embrace your body’s natural intuitive way of giving birth.
Thetechniques which you learn during a KGHypnobirthing course teach you to put yourself in a state of deep relaxation. This allows your body to calm down, it lowers the production of stress hormones and it relaxes your muscles. This in its turn lets your body work like it was meant to during child birth.
KGHypnobirthing can, in a lot of cases, make your labour shorter. When your body is under stress, it has a natural response – to release stress hormones, like adrenaline. This, of course, is helpful and appropriate if you are hurt or in a fight or flight situation, but during child birth they only hinder your natural abilities to deal with childbirth easier.
When your body releases these hormones, they slow down digestion, speed up your heartbeat, force your blood to your limbs as your body assumes you may need to run from danger. This means that your blood is diverted from your uterus which hinders the labour process. Fear also causes the body to tense up which also slow down the birth. This just becomes a vicious cycle of pain, fear and then even more pain and prolonged labour. KGHypnobirthing helps you break that cycle through positive visualisation, meditation and deep relaxation.
Less Drugs and Medical Intervention
The self-induced relaxed state of mind can be of great help during labour not just because it can shorten it, but also because it can help you trigger your body’s natural pain management abilities. Many mums report that KGHypnobirthing has helped them experience significantly less pain and some even report they experienced no pain – just pressure.
This is not to say that KGHypnobirthing is a magical solution, you may still experience some pain which you may need a mild anaesthetic for. But even if your birth isn’t completely pain-free or ‘perfect’ – it would still most likely be with a much calmer, relaxed and natural experience with a limited use of drugs.
Our complete programme doesn’t simply teach you relaxation techniques and breathing exercises. We believe fear often comes from not knowing what to expect, especially for first time mothers. Many parents would be googling frantically in the last few months of the pregnancy for reliable information on anything from the NHS to how to breastfeed their baby. That is why during the sessions with parents-to-be we also aim to inform them of their choices around child birth.
We do our best to help you by providing you with reliable information about the health system, your birthing options and how you can best plan and prepare for your birthing experience. We believe that when mummies-to-be and their partners feel like they are prepared and understand the birthing experience better, they are less stressed, feel more in control andare able to make the best (informed) choices about their baby and themselves.
KGHypnobirthing can help mummies have an easier postpartum experience. A birth can be very traumatic, and many women feel a myriad of emotions after their baby is born. That is normal as you have just gone through a deeply emotional and physical experience.
KGHypnobirthing mummies often feel like they have been in control of the process, even if it didn’t go perfectly as planned – for example if you had a c-section but you planned for natural birth. Many feel that they have made the best decisions in their circumstances as the course equipped them with knowledge about the process of giving birth.
Babies are also born in a less chaotic and stressful environment, and in KGHypnobirthing practitioners’ practice, that often makes them much calmer, more content and dare we say it, sleeping better! This in its turn makes life easier for the parents.
KGHypnobirthing is a wonderful programme that can help you go through child birth easier and more conscious of the significance and beauty of it. We know that not all births, of course, go to plan and sometimes natural birth isn’t possible. However, KGHypnobirthing aims to make you prepared and able to meet any challenges during the birthing process with calmness and information about your options.
